One of the most effective lies we've ever been told is that it is more respectful and loving to support someone's lifestyle or delusions rather than present them with an uncomfortable truth in the name of "acceptance" and "tolerance."
We are told it is offensive to claim that Jesus is the only way to salvation. The reality is that there is spiritual warfare taking place in our society masquerading as enlightenment. Sin and a general disregard for God has become the standard, so anything like devotion to the creator of the universe is painted as extreme. Our enemy has been working on a propaganda campaign to paint believers as the problem, and unfortunately we are mere mortals who still fall into sin, thereby hurting others and providing a (twisted) example for atheists to use as advertisements with everything they claim is wrong with Christianity.
In response, we have (as a community) withdrawn into ourselves and chosen to study alone, in isolation. No one is pointed fingers and calling us bigots within the safety of our individual study with Scripture. If we seek community openly, we run the risk of being called, at best, old fashioned. This is spiritual warfare, and many have not realized it's happening.
The enemy has made faith seem unreasonable, and in many places the tactic is working. This is one of the reasons it is so important to find the community. It is necessary for growth, but also to surround ourselves with an "army" of believers that can help us when we face the battles the world throws at us, and that the enemy never wanted us to be involved in to begin with.
Cheers,
Kathryn
